The system involved using a shampoo to prepare the hair, applying a clarifying treatment for hair cleansing, and finishing with a protein-enriched conditioner to restructure the hair. As the system gained popularity due to its effectiveness, non-professional consumers started purchasing the product for at-home use, resulting in hair damage. Consequently, Nexxus altered the original formula to make it more suitable for consumer usage, resulting in the creation of the "Gentle Clarifying Shampoo."
